| DigitalWorld's proprietary LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology and services use GPS/Inertial navigation technology on an aerial platform. During the flight a scanning laser range finder measures the distance to the ground thousands of times per second as it scans a swath below the aircraft. With each measurement we record the orientation of the platform, beam angle and inertial flight parameters. |
We synchronize these measurements with the GPS clock to provide microsecond accuracy. Post processing of the GPS real-time data and normalization of the data set produces a three dimensional 'point-cloud' of measured points in the data set. Typical parameters result in a DEM (Digital Elevation Model) with centimetre accuracy. |
